The weather is heating up and you want to cool down. One way is to wear light colors like white or pastels. Darker colors absorb light and make you feel hotter. Light colors or white reflect light and help keep you cool. Try wearing loose fitting clothing like a sleeveless top. It allows air to circulate next to your skin acting like a natural air conditioner. Another tip I find useful is to be mindful of the jewelry you wear. A chunky necklace may look good but can weigh you down as the day heats up. Stick to simple, lightweight chains or fun earrings to dress up your look.
Pulling your hair off your neck helps to keep you cool. I always travel with a scarf in my bag to tie back my hair as soon as I feel hot. It's amazing what a lift it gives you. Secret tip - I wet the scarf lightly first and then use it as a headband to tie back my hair. As the water evaporates I feel cooler.
And of course, a tall cool drink makes everything more bearable. I'm off now to ETG Book Cafe for my favorite ice coffee. I'm wearing a sleeveless dashiki, flowing skirt, and sandals. NY summer heat won't get me down !
