Have you ever looked at Halloween Costumes from the 30's and 40's?   They have a homemade look and simplicity that is charming.  Even the sexy costumes look wholesome.  There's costumes based on popular figures like Mickey Mouse and Snow White, and classic themes like clowns, pirates, witches, and pumpkins.  I even like that they are in black and white - it gives it a humorous, spooky touch.
